To the extent I am a photographer, I am a photographer because of Jill Thomas. When my family moved to Virginia it was good luck that my backyard kissed Jill’s. Jill was my neighbor before I owned my first camera. She was my friend, my mentor, my resource, and an inspiration. I booked my first wedding because of the things Jill taught me, and when I shot my first wedding my head was full of Jill’s images and ideas. We’re not neighbors today (she’s since moved her sweet family and her beautiful film photography to California), but I will always ADORE Jill and her work. She will always be an inspiration to me. Both in person and in art.
That is why my heart is so weak now, Jill lost her beautiful 21-month-old baby girl, Penny. As a mom I cannot fathom what her and her family are living, yet I am in awe at the faith, resilience, and love with which she has responded to this staggering blow.
When it rains it pours, and Jill’s unspeakable loss has brought an unexpected financial burden. The family’s insurance will not cover the cost of the funeral or related expenses. A fund has been set up to help the family, and please please make a contribution. But if you can’t, please say a prayer for the Thomas family.
